East Belfast Mission – Youth Fishing Sessions
Last year, East Belfast Mission brought us a fantastic group of young people who had never fished before. Over just four short sessions, they had a brilliant time picking up new skills and building confidence on the water.
This year, we’re running a two-part programme for another group of approximately 14 young angling novices, along with their support staff. The sessions are designed to be fun, educational, and hands-on.
Water Safety – Staying safe in and around the water
Hygiene – Clean hands, clean kit, and keeping things tidy
Types of Fishing – Introduction to coarse and game fishing
Bait Basics – What we use and why it works
Local Species – Learn about the fish found in our venue
Using Equipment – How to handle basic gear (3/4m whips)
Baiting Up – Putting bait on the hook with care
Catch & Release – How to handle fish safely and respectfully
These sessions will give participants enough knowledge and experience to earn a CAST NI Certificate by the end of the programme.
